Sule Pagoda

The Sule Pagoda is located in the center of downtown Yangon and is part of the city’s economic and public life. During the 1988 and 2007 protests, the Sule Pagoda was a functional meeting point for anti-government and pro-democracy protesters.The Sule Pagoda is an excellent landmark. It is said to be over 2.000 years old. The pagoda is said to enshrine a hair of the Buddha: its Mon name. KyaikAthok translates as "the pagoda where a Sacred Hair Relic is enshrined". The golden pagoda is unusual in that its octagonal shape continues right up to the bell and inverted bowl. It is surrounded by small shops and all the familiar non-religious services such as of astrologists. palmists. and so on.


Kaba Aye pagoda

Kabar Aye Pagoda is located on Kabar Aye Road. Mayangone Township.Yangon. Myanmar. The name “Kaba Aye” in Myanmar means “World Peace” to which this pagoda is dedicated.The pagoda and the adjoining MahaPasanaGuha cave were built in 1952 by U Nu, the prime minister of Burma to host the 6th Buddhist council which ended in 1956, 2,500 years after the Buddha’s passing into final Nirvana.The circular platform around the main pagoda is enclosed in the manner of a cave-temple and there are five porches decorated in the traditional style of flamboyant arched pediments. lotus flowers.


Taukkyan War Memorial

This cemetery, 25 km (15 miles) north of Yangon in the village of Taukkyan, is for the British, Australian, Indian, African and Burmese soldiers who fought and lost their lives in World War II. The memorial stands in TAUKKYAN WAR CEMETERY, which is the largest of the three war cemeteries in Burma. The cemetery contains the graves of 6,374 soldiers who died in the Second World War and the graves of 52 soldiers who died in Burma during the First World War. It’s very well kept with beautiful flowers.


National Independance Monument

The Independence Monument is located in the center of Maha Bandoola Park in Downtown Yangon. It commemorates the independence of Burma from the British in 1948. The Independence Monument is an obelisk with a height of 46 meters, which is surrounded by five smaller pillars of 9 meters. On the fourth side of the square is a park with a massive obelisk rising 48m from the ground. It’s surrounded by five smaller columns and bronze lions. We were told that the people hope to be able to add a statue in this park to Bogyoke Aung San because he had dedicated his life to winning the independence of Burma from the British.

BogyokeAung San Marketlocated in Pabedantownship in central Yangon, Myanmar.The market was first built and inaugurated on the present premises in 1926. It was named Scott Market after Mr. C. Scott. the then Municipal Commissioner. Nowadays.it is called BogyokeAung San Market in honour of our national leader General Aung San who was assassinated in 1947.

Yangon Zoo is located near Kandawgyi Garden. the Zoo is noted for its collection of wild animals. flora and fauna which have been collected over the years since it was opened in 1906.The Zoo today is one of the centreattraction in the city of Yangon for both local and international tourists. Covering an area of 58.16 acres.in downtown Yangon and lying close to the Great Shwe Dagon Pagoda. the zoo with it's collection of nearly 200 species of animals and big shady trees. draws nearly 1.5 million visitors annually. The animals comprise of over 60 species of mammals. 70 species of birds and 20 species of reptiles.
